Blackberry Messenger is coming to iOS and Android this summer

According to a news post by TheVerge (which rarely fails to inform us correctly) Blackberry announced that it will be bringing its BlackBerry Messenger application to Apple’s iOS and Google’s Android platform, as a free app this summer! Better late than never, don't you say?

According to The Verge the new device for iOS and Android will support initially BBM chats, multi-person chats, voice note sharing and BlackBerry Groups, where BBM users are able to set up groups of up to 30 people and share calendar, photos, files etc.

According to its official specifications, the Blackberry Messenger app will be compatible with iOS 6.0 and above devices and Android 4.0 or later smartphones.

Note that BlackBerry Messenger claims 60 million monthly active users, with more than 51 million daily active users sending and receiving more than ten billion messages each day, “nearly twice as many messages per user per day as compared to other mobile messaging apps.”

What do you think? Would you use BlackBerry Messenger on your smartphone?
