Budget iPhone production to begin soon? [rumor]

According to a report from the well established site Macotakara (via 9to5Mac)  the low-cost iPhone is going into production this summer, starting in early July. Apple is apparently testing several colors in the initial run, including Navy, Gold-orange, White, Pink, Green, Blue and Yellow-orange.

The same report mentions that Apple will begin beta testing the device itself in June, producing about 1,000 test units for this reason, while full production of the handset is expected to begin by mid July-September. This budget version of the iPhone is expected to cost almost 300$, since it will be constructed by plastic and metallic parts. Apple is believed to be making the handset to up its market share in countries like India and China, which are dominated by prepaid customers.

Macotakara’s report also mentions some info on the upcoming iPhone 5S as well, insisting that flagship smartphone will also come in a variety of colors, featuring a dual-LED flash and redesigned rear mic.

In any case we'll just have to wait if any of these things comes true eventually.
