An end to auto face recognition for Facebook in Europe

Facebook stopped using face recognition software for uploaded photos in Europe, after a research by regulators, highlighting that this type of software is one of the biggest threats in user privacy.

After regulators noted this, Facebook immediately decided to deactivate the use of this software, exclusively in our continent. The regulator in charge of Facebook in Europe is the Irish information protection authority.

What does this decision mean for all of us who have a profile on the social network? Quite simply, that when either us or our friends upload a photo, it will no longer ask us to recognize who is who and tag them. The Irish European regulator recognizes that we own our photos and faces, and it is only up to us if we update Facebook on our ID, by tagging ourselves.
