A summit meeting between Zuckerberg - Medvedev in Russia’s Silicon Valley

During a scheduled trip to Russia on Monday, Facebook founder is expected to meet with Russian prime minister Dmitry Medvedev. This meeting will take place in a suburb near Moscow, where Kolkovo Innovation Center is located. It’s a technology park that has been built with the support of major american companies, like Microsoft, IBM and Intel.

What’s this meeting about, then? First off, Zuckerberg wants to strengthen the presence of Facebook in the quite interesting russian market, where VKontakte is dominant. Medvedev on the other hand is highly active in social media, with his Twitter accounts being followed by more than 1.8 million people. He may not be so popular among the female population as Putin, but he certainly gives it his best shot through social media.

A lesser known connection between Facebook and Russia is the owner of nearly 10% of the social network. What is that? Yuri Milner’s Digital Sky Technologies, which has invested 200 million dollars in 2009. So they have pretty close contact.
