How easy is it to have your smartphone stolen in the Metro?

Here is a video that has become quite popular in Hungary. Last Thursday, a girl that rode the capital’s Metro line, was playing with her iPhone.

She paid no attention to the guy standing next to her. It was another passenger who paid attention, since he realized that guy had a kind of suspicious behavior, so he turned on his camera and recorded the scene.

As you can see in the video, if a thief can sync his moves, meaning to wait until the wagon doors are ready to close before stealing the phone, it’s quite easy to lose your device.

In this girl’s case however, the video helped apprehend the culprit. But how can you be certain that in your own case, when you ride from Kifisia to Piraeus, some passenger across you will be there to record as well?

Those of you who live in downtown Athens, know that this kind of incidents occur every day, even on busy streets in midday. Those of you who walk in cities should just keep in mind that a smartphone theft is one of the most common things that can happen to you.

In any case, it’s wise to keep your wits about you, and also familiarize yourselves with your apps and software in order to be able to erase your data or locate your device.
