Dwayne Johnson is the new “Hercules”

After many months of discussions, the Hercules project finally locked, with Dwayne Johnson starring, Brett Ratner directing, and Paramount and MGM opening their wallets.

The plot will be based on the comic titled “Hercules: The Thracian Wars”, created by Steve Moore, in which the story follows the king of Thrace inviting Hercules and six good friends, and giving them a mission to train his army. Hercules agrees, but will soon find out that he has been blinded by gold and power, and drew him away from the road of virtue.

It’s probably somewhere at that time that Dwayne starts muscling up and mythology starts to rumble. Ryan Condal took over the script, on which Greek Evan Spiliotopoulos has also worked.

Filming starts in 2013 and the film is expected for release no earlier than 2014. 2013 however, will be a very busy year for Johnson, as he will also star in Pain & Gain by Michael Bay, GI Joe Retaliation, action thriller Snitch, and of course the sixth Fast & Furious.
