Benicio Del Toro will play the part of drug lord Pablo Escobar

Benicio Del Toro will play the part of infamous Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar, in the Paradise Lost movie, a production to be filmed in Panama, with a budget of 25 million dollars. Inspired by actual events, the film will be about a young surfer who visits his brother in Colombia, and there falls madly in love with a local girl. Her uncle just happens to be Escobar.

Andrea Di Stefano wrote the script, while he is also about to make his directoral debut with this project, a co-production of Studio 37 and Pathe. This romantic thriller is not a clear biography of Escobar, but will rather feature a narrative structure similar to The Last King of Scotland, approaching Escobar’s character through the relationship of the two young people in love.
