Pixar’s lamp just became “a real boy”

We could bet that Shanshan Zhou, Adam Ben-Dror and Joss Doggett are movie fans. Their robotic creation that goes by the name “Pinokio”, brings to mind the hopping mascot-lamp by Pixar, called Luxo Jr. When you watch this video, you can only wear a wide smile on your face and run the comparison in your mind.

Using Processing, Arduino and OpenCV technologies, this team managed to enable the Lamp to carry out a series of movements that are actually signs of behavior and communication.

A webcam, a microphone, a mechanical iris, two servo motion systems, and an iodine lamp, are some of the parts that make up Pinokio, which you can enjoy in the video below.
