Setting ice on fire

Some times, science can be magical. In the video below, you can see in what way you can set ice on fire, doing something similar th what Adele sings, who wants to “set fire in the rain”.

Indeed, setting ice on fire, can actually occur, by adding a layer of calcium carbide to ice cubes.

As you can tell of course, the ice does not exactly turn into ash. It just provides calcium carbide with the water it needs to produce acetylene, which offers a flame effect.
